Barriers – racism
Many people stop playing the sport they enjoy or working out because of racists comments against them such as in football. It is something that people are trying to stop as it is effecting people’s social lives and their mental health as they feel like they can’t do things. Racism is heavily talked about in football as there are many black footballers who have had to come off / walked off the pitch due to racists shouting and also getting objects thrown at them, which is why the FA have brought in “show racism the red card” it shows a message of why nobody should be treated differently because of things such as the color or their skin or religion. They have also brought in a rule where if a fan is racist they get banned for a certain amount of time and could have to deal with the police as it is an offense. https://www.theredcard.org/England
Newcastle
The pay rates in Newcastle show that men are getting paid more then women as there are more men working than women, this is because women leave to have children and some don’t go back to work as they want to stay home or feel that they need to stay home more than they have to work. The rates show that 45% of men are paid more than women and 36% of women don’t go back to work after having a baby.
Gateshead
The employment rates in Gateshead are that 5,600 people are unemployed including people over the age of 16 but under the age of 18 , 2,300 of these are females between the ages of 16 and 18. However is is improving as people will need to find work to pay bills etc.
Locality of the survey
I found out from my survey that everyone is local meaning they are either from Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland areas. I have done some health research for those areas.
Health and social care
I have chosen this as they will have more of an understanding about health and why people exercise and it will encourage them to exercise themselves.
Game design
I have chosen this as they have to spend most of their time on computers which won’t leave a lot of time for them to exercise.
Construction
I have chosen this because they might be going to the gym outside of college as they will need to have the strength for certain stuff in construction. However teachers have seen them smoking on the college site which can affect their fitness.
Groups
The groups I have chosen are construction, game design and health and social care, because there are alot of people on these courses.
